Grace Metalious, novelist of the famous Peyton Place let quite an interesting and tumultuous life. She was ahead of her time with her writing and many thought it was scandalous yet thousand upon thousands of copies sold and kept selling. Grace had grown up poor but was also spoiled in that unlike most children, she was not made to do chores, or help around the house, or help with meals and having been raised that way she was not a very good housewife. She often left household chores up to her husband and children and often was in downward spirals over her life and yet she caused a lot of the downfall. Her husband George was quite the man, and really did all that he could as a husband but Grace had a drinking problem and often lived her life how she wanted. George had a solid job, raised the kids, made sure there was food in the house, meals on the table but a person can only handle doing everything for so long and ultimately Grace’s drinking is what caused a lot of the problems in her life. Peyton Place is what gave Grace everything she had ever wanted and yet it still wasn’t good enough, although she was quickly thrown into the Hollywood scene and learned that just because she was the author, did not mean she made the decisions with it becoming a tv show. This title could not be more accurate for the life Grace lead, she often had various seasons and you never knew which one you were getting.
Thank you to the author for the free novel and Suzy Approved Book Tours for the invite. These back stories of authors are always so intriguing to me. If you enjoyed reading about F. Scott Fitzgerald, his wife Zelda, or Ernest Hemingway- I would highly suggest adding this to your list to read.

About The Book:
The Seasons of Grace is an unauthorized tale of Grace Metalious and her desire to tell the stories that no one dared to tell before that time. From small town life in New England to the hustle and bustle of New York City and to the unforgiving film studios of Hollywood, Grace’s story unfolds. This is a classic scenario where art imitates life and so does this story. The young author is coping with literary and financial successes. The author, without realizing it, was creating her own Peyton Place where she herself had to live.
No novel had achieved greater recognition than her first. One out of every 29 Americans had read Peyton Place. They would dog eared the pages, underlined their favorite passages, stuffed it in the back of a drawer to conceal it from the prying eyes of others. This novel was a true sensation in both the literary world and helped form popular culture as we know it. The legacy is lastly and continues to this day.

This sounds interesting, mostly because I believe my mother used to watch the TV show made from the book.
